Ingredients:
- 1 cup dried hibiscus petals
- 4 cups water
- 1/2 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 cinnamon stick (optional)
- 1-2 cloves (optional)
- 1-2 teaspoons grated ginger (optional)
- Ice cubes (optional)
- Fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)
- Lemon slices for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
Rinse the Hibiscus Petals
Start by rinsing the dried hibiscus petals under cold water to remove any dust or debris.
Boil Water
In a medium-sized saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
Add Hibiscus Petals
Once the water is boiling, add the rinsed hibiscus petals to the saucepan.
If you’re using additional flavorings like cinnamon stick, cloves, or grated ginger, add them to the water as well.
Simmer
Reduce the heat to low and let the hibiscus petals steep in the simmering water for about 10-15 minutes.
This allows the flavors to infuse into the water.
Strain
After simmering, remove the saucepan from heat and strain the liquid to remove the hibiscus petals and any other flavorings.
You can use a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth for this.
Sweeten to Taste
While the tea is still warm, stir in the sugar until it dissolves.
Adjust the sweetness according to your preference.
You can add more or less sugar as desired.
Chill (Optional)
Allow the tea to cool to room temperature, and then refrigerate it to chill.
You can also serve it warm if preferred.
Serve
Pour the chilled or warm hibiscus tea into glasses over ice cubes if desired.
Garnish with fresh mint leaves and lemon slices for an extra burst of flavor and visual appeal.
